The Keene Housing Authority was established in 1965 by resolution of the City Council of Keene, New Hampshire.

A five member Board of Commissioners was appointed by the Mayor of Keene to govern the Authority. The Executive Director is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the agency.

The Keene Housing Authority is committed to providing decent, safe and affordable housing to residents of the Monadnock Region, while at the same time meeting the needs of family, and elderly households. Toward this end, a vast array of programs and services are offered including Public Housing, Section 8 Voucher Program, Congregate Housing Services Program, Resident Self Reliance Program, and the Housing Assistance Coupon Program.

Additionally, the City of Keene‘s Community Development Block Grant Program is administered by the Authority. Keene Housing Authority has also administered grants for Cheshire County on several occasions.

Alliances and partnerships have been formed with other organizations within the region to improve the quality of life and resident self-reliance. The Keene Housing Authority owns and operates 215 units for elderly or disabled and 142 family housing units. Rental assistance is offered through the Section 8 Voucher Program and the Housing Assistance Coupon Program.

Through federal, state, and private grant programs, the Keene Housing Authority contributes almost $5,000,000 to the local economy and pays over $250,000 in property taxes to local communities annually.

In 1997, Keene Housing Authority was selected as one of 21 housing authorities for participation in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development “Moving to Work Demonstration Program.”

The Spectrum Program allows the Authority to move beyond traditional “bricks and mortar” housing. The Keene Housing Authority seeks to be innovative and creative in developing programs that meet the needs of the community.
